The Average White Band is still one of the baddest bands to take the stage of FUNK. A long time admirer of their biggest hit “Pick Up the Pieces,” it was during this interview that they told me the inspiration for the tune.
It was the “Godfather of Soul” himself, the founder of FUNK, James Brown, that inspired the band’s composition. The guys went on to do tracks like “Cut the Cake” and “School Boy Crush,” but “Pick Up the Pieces,” is THE quintessential AWB hit!
