I’ve been shopping at John’s Meat Market for 5 years now and I’ve never been disappointed with the quality of meat or service that I get every time I shop there.

Sometimes you want to go where everybody knows your name…Well they may not know my first name, but it is nice to be acknowledged when you walk in the shop with a friendly “girls, pot pies today?” By the way, their homemade chicken pot pies are to die for. The best I have ever had, and I would put money on it that they are the best anywhere, ever!!!

John’s has been voted NJ’s best butcher, by NJ Magazine, for the past three years. Of course, because I voted for them. And not just because one Saturday I walked in on one of them singing Marvin Gaye and reminiscing about how much he loved the music from the 70’s…although I have to tell you that definitely cemented our relationship. No, I voted for them because I love shopping there.

I love going to John’s because I always get tips on the best way to prepare and cook different meats. These men really know what they are talking about. They have educated me on how the animals at the farms where they source their meats are treated and slaughtered. They have taken the time to share their knowledge on the science of organic, grass feed and cage free meat. We have discussed the color of their meats and the aging process.

In addition to their pot pies, I highly recommend their turkey burgers…the best turkey burgers I have ever tasted. Their organic chickens are out of this world and right now their wild salmon is at the best price I have seen in a while. Their steaks are also excellent on the grill. Pork chops are good. It’s all good!

My usual order consist of 6 turkey burgers, 1 whole organic chicken, a center cut piece of salmon and 2 of their homemade pot pies. I have even turned on family members from out of state to John’s. Shopping at the butcher is an added expense but it is well worth it if you want to put good fish, meat and poultry in your body.
