“THE COLOR PURPLE” IS BACK ON BROADWAY!

“The Color Purple” opens on Broadway tomorrow night!  Starring Jennifer Hudson as “Shug Avery,” the all around female entertainer performed a segment of the show, on “The Late Show” after taking the couch with Stephen Colbert on Monday night.

Taken from POLK & Company’s Press Release: “This fall’s highly anticipated production of THE COLOR PURPLE, starring Grammy, Academy Award and Golden Globe award winner JENNIFER HUDSON, London breakout star CYNTHIA ERIVO, and Orange is the New Black’s DANIELLE BROOKS, officially opens on Thursday, December 10, 2015, at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre (242 W 45th Street).  The production is directed by Tony Award-winning John Doyle.  Based on Alice Walker’s Pulitzer Prize winning novel and the Warner Bros. / Amblin Entertainment motion picture, THE COLOR PURPLE is an unforgettable story of enduring love and triumph over adversity.  With a fresh, joyous score of jazz, ragtime, gospel and blues, this stirring family chronicle follows the inspirational Celie, as she journeys from childhood through joy and despair, anguish and hope to discover the power of love and life.”

“The Color Purple” is appearing at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre – 242 West 45th Street (between 7th & 8th Avenue).  The after party is at New York’s famed Copacabana!  Special invited guests for the evening include: ARETHA FRANKLIN, DENZEL WASHINGTON, CLIVE DAVIS, ALICE WALKER, LAVERNE COX, GLORIA STEINEM, TAYLOR SCHILLING, UZO ADUBA, ZAC POSEN, PRABAL GURUNG, GAYLE KING, PATINA MILLER, KATE MULGREW, LEA DELARIA, SAMIRA WILEY, ADRIENNE MOORE, BILL CONDON, RAUL ESPARZA, HARVEY FIERSTEIN, MARIN MAZZIE, ELLEN BURSTYN, TAMRON HALL, MARGARET AVERY, CANDACE CAMERON BURE AND MICHELLE COLLINS, among others.

“The Color Purple” began as a 1982 epistolary novel by American author Alice Walker that won the 1983 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction and the National Book Award for Fiction.  It was later adapted into a film directed by Steven Spielberg, with the score composed by the legendary Quincy Jones, starring Whoopi Goldberg, Danny Glover and Oprah Winfrey.colorpurple2
