I don’t believe the The Recording Academy will deny selecting Halsey or Lukas Graham for Best New Artist at next year’s Grammy Awards.

Lukas GrahamStraight Outta Copenhagen, Lukas Graham’s vocals seem well beyond his years liken to the lyrics of his hit record “7 Years,” which I say is a definite contender for Record of the Year. The song is featured on his debut self-titled album, that’s also the name of the band, in the vein of Sade (Adu).

Graham’s second single “Mama Said” is the follow-up to the tune that talks about advice from his father. There are moments in music when you hear a voice or a type of sound that makes an everlasting impression. This holds true for both Lukas and Halsey in my book.

Halsey’s current single “Chainsmokers” continues to top the chart. The newcomer also sold out New York’s Madison Square Garden, just months after her debut album, “Badlands” was released. She’s already achieved more than most artists even dream of, yet she’s just getting started.

Her song “Castle (Huntsmen Winter’s War Version)” is another deserving of Record of the Year, as well as they should both get nods, in the Song of the Year category as well.Halsey - Best New Artist
