The Black and Brown Trading Stamp Corporation
While I was paying homage to and celebrating the birthday of the greatest entertainer of all time, the Godfather of Soul James Brown, my facebook friend Jon Daniels asked if I had a set of Black and Brown Trading Stamps in the Museum Of UnCut Funk collection. Unfortunately I don’t, but you can bet that I am now looking to acquire a set.

Women’s History month is a very special time at the Museum Of UnCut Funk. As we celebrate the accomplishments of women in every aspect of American History, we are focusing on women in the arts. To help us make this year’s celebration more note worthy we are honored to have Nancy Goldstein, author of Jackie Ormes: The First African American Woman Cartoonist, as a guest content contributor.

USPS Stamps for 2013 – Part Two
We continue to build our collection of Black Heritage and Forever Stamps depicting Blacks who have made significant contributions to Amercian History. We recently added the new Emancipation Proclamation stamp that was introduced on January 1, 2013 and the Rosa Parks stamp that was introduced on February 4, 2013. We are now eagerly awaiting the release of two more Black Heritage stamps that will be introduced later this year honoring Althea Gibson and Ray Charles.
Golden Legacy
I did a post on the Golden Legacy series about a year ago where I featured the author Bertram Fitzgerald. All 16 titles is the series were represented but I did not show any pages from the inside of these books. I have now added a few pages below.
Daddy Cool – The Graphic Novel
Daddy Cool is one of the first graphic novels the Museum Of UnCut Funk archived in it’s collection. Being a fan of Black and White comics I sought out this novel for the collection. I have found very little written about Daddy Cool. I did, however, come across one article written by Kristy Valenti for Comixology. We thank Kristy for allowing the Museum Of UnCut Funk to reprint her article.

Black Samurai – The Book Series
The Museum Of UnCut Funk has added the Black Samurai stories by Marc Olden to it’s ever growing collection of 1970′s crime novels. We have books 1,2,3 and 5 and are currently looking for books 4,6,7 and 8. These books were published in 1974 and 1975 and we have the 1st printed issues in our collection.
Where’s Huddles?
Where’s Huddles? is a Hanna-Barbera animated television program which premiered on CBS on July 1, 1970 and ran for ten episodes as a prime-time summer replacement show for The Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour until September 2, 1970. Repeats were shown on the network’s Sunday afternoon schedule in the summer of 1971. It was the first prime time animated series to debut since The Flintstones went off the air in 1966.
150 Years Of Emancipation
In celebration of the 150th Anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation, the Museum Of UnCut Funk sourced a copy of an old Abraham Lincoln / Civil War Comic Book. Would we do it any other way. Hell No!!!
Collecting With Kareem — Don’t Call Me a Hoarder
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is the NBA’s all-time leading scorer and a New York Times best-selling author who has written seven books, including Black Profiles in Courage; A Season on the Reservation; Brothers in Arms: The Epic Story of the 761st Tank Battalion, WWII’s Forgotten Heroes; On the Shoulders of Giants: My Journey Through the Harlem Renaissance; and What Color is My World? The Lost History of African-American Inventors. He is also an avid collector. Here is his story.
Brown v Board Of Education Bronze Medal
The 1954 Supreme Court case known as Brown versus Board of Education of Topeka (Kansas) actually included five cases from five different states, but all the cases related to the issue of ending racial segregation in public schools. The medal commemorating this seminal case is in the collection of the Museum Of UnCut Funk.
The Panthers Protested Blaxploitation?
I learned something new about the Blaxploitation movement, that in addition to the NAACP, the Black Panthers at some point also started to protest this genre of film. Seems like they had more of a love / hate relationship with Blaxploitation.
