The handwritings been on the wall for some time now. Once the advent of legalizing marijuana for medicinal purposes came into existence, the evolution of decriminalization and recreational use, was on its way – now it’s arrived.
Above all, I’m grateful for my blessings, I can truly say that. This coward that took the lives of so many innocent people in Orlando should not be called a terrorist. It was a horrific occurrence, and while I do consider acts of violence terrorist acts, this weakling for lack of better description isn’t worthy.
Living 57 years is great, but if he were still here, he’d be 58. The ‘Controversy’ concerning his estate is a disgrace. People with a ‘Dirty Mind’, making claims to what he created, ‘Must Be Something in the Water They Drink.’
Forty years ago this February, President Gerald Ford, was the first to recognize “Black History Month.” This period of acknowledgement evolved from “Negro History Week,” that was created by historian Carter G. Woodson, and other prominent African-Americans. This installment of the FUNKALICIOUS blog, is a retrospective of some American and Internatinal “Black” History accomplishments and occurrences, throughout 2015…
A long time friend of mine sent me this video on Facebook. It’s incredible because it breaks down the root of bigotry, the dynamics of the caste system in America and it’s guiding force through media, in less than 12 minutes. Narrated by actor Matthew Cook, there’s nothing I can really add, as he puts it all into perspective.
Here’s the deal with Donald Trump. All his previous announcements to run for President were publicity. You may be saying, “no kidding,” but allow me to elaborate.
As long as I’ve been alive there’s been war. Taken from npr.org: “The U.S. is going to deploy more military trainers to Iraq. President Obama has approved sending 450 more Americans in the effort to take back Anbar province from the self-proclaimed Islamic State. That’s the largely Sunni region which stretches west from Baghdad to the border with Syria, Jordan and Saudi Arabia. Iraqi government forces have done poorly against ISIS.”
This year marks the 20th year for the Essence Music Festival!!! An INCREDIBLE FUNKIN’ event, it started out as a celebration, for Essence magazine’s 25th anniversary. After the first year, it was clear, at the very least another was required.
Louis Johnson, of the Brother’s Johnson discovered by Quincy Jones, passed away on May 21st. Truly one I was blessed to have met, and got to interview about his life and music, he was unquestionably one of the FUNKIEST to ever hold a bass guitar.
When I think of a movie that’s done multiple sequels, the first one that comes to mind is “Rocky.” After that, there’s “Star Wars,” and it’s now forthcoming follow-ups; the “Star Trek” franchise; Peter Jackson’s “Lord of the Rings” and “Hobbit” prequel flicks; “Mission Impossible” (MI5 out 7/31); “Godzilla” movies and “The Fast and the Furious.”
This is not a review, just an announcement, the new Kendrick Lamar is here. Lamar gave hip-hop a long awaited FUNK injection with his debut release “Good Kid, M.A.A.D City” in 2012. His new CD “To Pimp a Butterfly” is a Funkalicious follow-up.
All my experiences with Dr. Bronner’s products have been good ones. So when I saw the article below about drama with the FDA, I had to know more. Here’s the site…
Family, this will be my final installment, for my thoughts on the Black Panther Party (BPP). COINTELPRO – is a code word aka acronym for Counter Intelligence Program – in reference to the BPP. It’s objectives was the neutralization of black extremists groups, prevention of violence by said groups, and the prevention of coalition of black extremists organizations.
This is a tribute to family members of the creators and contributors to The Museum Of UnCut Funk (TMOUF) that have served this country. On this day, we recognize and acknowledge those in our family, whose memory we cherish everyday.
Let’s reminisce a little… I’m an O.G. (older gentleman) and as I recollect, I remember the 70s being my favorite decade, and I will tell you why. The music, the club scene, the dances, and so on – and I could just go on, and on. Why this particular time, rather than some others was more enjoyable to me personally, is easy to explain.
At the age of 22, Luc Besson released his first short film “L’avant dernier,” (translation: Next to Last) in which he also appeared. It starred Jean Reno, an actor that he would work with repeatedly in future films. Besson’s new film “Lucy” starring Scarlet Johansen hits theaters across the country this week, and it’s nowhere near ‘next to last’, on Luc’s list of movies.
On Monday, July 7th, Governor Andrew Cuomo signed the Compassionate Care Act. This action made the state of New York the 23rd in the union to legalize medicinal marijuana. Although the stamp of approval is restricted to non-smokable forms via pills, oils, or vapors, the legalization of cannabis across America’s 50 states continues.
Earlier this year, I had to put a friend up on the meaning of posthumous — I forget what I was referencing. According to Webster’s it means: happening, done, or published after someone’s death; born after the death of the father; published after the death of the author; and/ or following or occurring after death. For friends and fans of a music artist, posthumous is generally a dirty and undesirable word.
The first time I went to an ice bar was in Alaska at an Ice Hotel! Now there’s one in New York called Minus-5 (degrees). Located at the Hilton hotel in midtown, it opened TODAY! Smart move in the midst of a heat wave. The establishment has three existing previous locations in the U.S., two in Las Vegas, Nevada at the Mandalay Bay and Monte Carlo Hotel and Casinos and one in Minneapolis.
Here are the facts: Lauryn Hill was sued for not paying collaborators on her Grammy Award winning album “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill” and now she’s in jail for tax evasion. I’m not even versed with the details in either case, I don’t really need to be, those that sued her got paid and now she’s been locked up for not paying the government. Hill posted an open letter on June 28th, the day before she was incarcerated for her three month sentence. While she unquestionably speaks the truth in it, I don’t know how much of it has to do with HER not paying her taxes. It’s below from her Tumbler page:
