Rosa Parks has become the first Black woman to be honored with a life-size statue in the Capitol. The statue of Mrs. Parks captures her waiting to be arrested on Dec. 1, 1955, after she refused to give up her seat for a white passenger on a crowded segregated bus in Montgomery, Alabama. She is seated, dressed in a heavy wool coat and clutching her purse as she looks out of an unseen window waiting for the police.
How amazing is it that President Barack Obama has been sworn in for his second term on Martin Luther King, Jr. day!
President Obama wasted no time in getting back to work after the election. Here are a few of the things that he has had to manage in the last 60 days…in addition to laying the foundation for his second term, running the country, planning his second inauguration, making cabinet appointments and adding gun control to his agenda.
Here is Politifact’s take, via The Daily Kos, on how Barack Obama has performed relative to the promises that he made for his first term (http://www.dailykos.com/story/2012/12/02/1166659/-Politifact-Obama-passes-200-promises-kept#). The Daily Kos article points out that Obama has kept over 200 promises, compromised on 101 and broken 109. He has kept or compromised on 3 out of 5. Not bad considering the obstruction that he has faced. Here is a summary of some of the most important actions that the President has taken.
Here are some of the funnier, more amusing, whimsical images of President Barack Obama. Kind of a Presidential blooper reel. Well, at least he has been able to keep his sense of humor.
Wow! Has there ever been another President who has been selected to be TIME’s Person of the Year twice during their reign? Barack Obama was TIME Person Of The Year in 2008 (http://museumofuncutfunk.com/2011/10/16/time-magazine-person-of-the-year/) and he has earned a repeat in 2012 (http://poy.time.com/2012/12/19/person-of-the-year-barack-obama/). The best part about four more years of President Obama is getting to witness for more years of Barack and Michelle! Just can’t ever get enough of The President and his amazing First Lady.
I cannot stress enough how important it is for everyone to exercise their right to vote. Many good people died so that everybody could vote. Many bad people are still trying to take away our right to vote…so if you don’t use it you will definitely lose it.
I am very proud that I was able to make a small donation to the Obama For America effort to help re-elect the President. To be clear, my donation was not even close to his largest, but he still send me a thank you note…me and the millions of other Americans that gave what they could to help keep our country moving forward. But still it is special to me, so I am sharing it with you.
