It’s 2013, Two-Thousand-Thirteen… in lieu of recent occurrences, I have to start this blog by pointing out how these things happened during Black History Month, which is now also known as African-American History Month.  This annual vital observance began in the United States in 1926.

I usually leave all that’s FUNKY in food up to Cafe 70 and Sista ToFunky, but I just had to share, as I know she wants to get down with this!

I believe Jeymes Samuel is an artist on the rise to watch.  The frontman for the group The Bullitts, Samuel is a producer/singer/songwriter and filmmaker.

Alicia Keys will be the first entertainer to perform three times at the Super Bowl.  The singer is doing the National Anthem at the game this year on February 3rd in New Orleans.

Prince’s latest video is a bit of a departure from many of his hits over the years.  One who has boasted about his sexual prowess and a voracious appetite for partying and the night life, “Rock and Roll Love Affair” touches on the vulnerability and humble side of a “Rock Star”, check it out.

“Django Unchained” is everything a Quentin Tarantino fan expects it to be — Don’t miss it.  It stars Jamie Foxx, Leonardo DiCaprio, Kerry Washington, Samuel L. Jackson and Christopher Waltz.

Brazil has always been hot, but it’s going to be sizzling for the next few years, as the South American country has two major events on the horizon.

The James Bond 007 franchise has been around for 50 years now.  Whether you’re young, old, white, black, Asian or Latino, if you love action movies with lots of sex and spy drama, you’re no doubt a “Bond, James Bond” fan.  Practically a genre unto itself via the films and the music, ‘James Bond’, has been a mainstay for movies in countries around the world.

At this point it appears there’s no end to the inception of another “Reality Show.”  I put the term in quotation marks, because by now even those who are not media savvy, have come to realize that there’s a lot of scenarios and drama created amidst the actual ‘reality’ on these shows.  There’s a new show depicting aspects of reality, centered around a circle of sisters.

The New York State Lottery has a new ad campaign that I find extremely offensive, and I don’t even play the lottery.  Gordon Medinica and Gardner Gumey are the names of the guys upstairs at the NY State Lottery.  They need to know that everybody that rides the subway is not submissive to dumbing it down.

The premiere for Spike Lee’s “Red Hook Summer” was this past Monday night, after the director and cast engaged in interviews throughout the day to promote the film.  Here’s a summation of the event according to his publicist, The 135th Street Agency, headed by Shante Bacon.

In a recent interview with Miles Davis’ son, Erin Davis, and nephew Vince Wilburn Jr., it was revealed that Antoine Fuqua is set to direct the Miles Davis biopic.  I was alerted to this fact via indiewire.com, through an interview they posted from the Wall Street Journal’s Lee Hawkins about the new Miles Davis postage stamp!

 
 
New music artists are out there, and perhaps in large numbers.  The way things are, it’s not always easy to find out about new music or talent that’s dope and worthy of praise.  Recently while browsing at Best Buy, I discovered new music from Keane and B.o.B., and remembered that I saw B.o.B. recently on some late night talk show.

About a month ago, The Museum of UnCut Funk paid a visit to the Aleem Brothers in Brooklyn.
