Above all, I’m grateful for my blessings, I can truly say that. This coward that took the lives of so many innocent people in Orlando should not be called a terrorist. It was a horrific occurrence, and while I do consider acts of violence terrorist acts, this weakling for lack of better description isn’t worthy.
Qatar Airways has kicked off beefing up their locations for commercial flights across the country. Qatar is the world’s third largest cargo operator with more than 150 destinations. Louis Johnson, of the Brother’s Johnson discovered by Quincy Jones, passed away on May 21st. Truly one I was blessed to have met, and got to interview about his life and music, he was unquestionably one of the FUNKIEST to ever hold a bass guitar.
In the midst of societal ills and personal challenges I look to family and music for solace. Holy Moly! There are a few things that I am remiss about discovering at this juncture and some new releases and tunes forthcoming that I’m very excited to hear. Music serves as therapy for me, and is and will always be, the universal language that conjoins the hearts and minds of humanity.
There is no FUNKIN’ “Middle-Class.” Dear friends, associates, lovers of this website and random blog readers, ever since G. W. Bush Funked Up the economy, the “Middle-Class” has ceased to exist. Sure, for the most part the Working Class – those with ambition – have been ok, but unless you’re bringing in a minimum of 200-250k, you are not of today’s “Middle-Class.” It’s cold ain’t it, but it’s real – the sooner you accept this reality, the more equipped you will be to change it.
Stevie Wonder is taking “Songs in the Key of Life” on the road! He initially announced the tour about a year ago, but dates for the road trip, hit the Internet just last month. I got the news via http://insideplaya.wordpress.com about a week or so ago! I didn’t recall having heard about it before – then I spoke to a fellow Wonder lovers, and they too said they hadn’t heard yet either. I am generally the one to hear about major music events among my immediate family and friends — then our cousin Stevie told us that he wanted to write something for The Museum of UnCut Funk. His inspiration, to talk about his memories connected to the album, made me begin to think of mine…
Earlier this year, I had to put a friend up on the meaning of posthumous — I forget what I was referencing. According to Webster’s it means: happening, done, or published after someone’s death; born after the death of the father; published after the death of the author; and/ or following or occurring after death. For friends and fans of a music artist, posthumous is generally a dirty and undesirable word.
Chadwick Boseman, the star of the movie “42” based on the life of Jackie Robinson, has taken on the role of James Brown for the biopic “Get On Up.” The film chronicles Brown’s life from poverty to his rise to mega success, as he became one of the most influential musicians in history. World renown as “The Godfather of Soul”, Brown is unequivocally “The Pioneer of FUNK.”
I found myself with a touch of insomnia last night, so I turned on the tube and began surfing until I felt sleepy. I land on “Tru-TV” and see flashing lights from police cars. “What’s this? Did TruTV pick up ‘Cops’”? I soon realize that’s not the case. It’s a show called “Bait Car.”
