Racism is alive and casting lots of un-wellness among the people of our nation. While millions find it hard to believe… “Stay Woke,” as it’s when one is blind that ye suffers most. Through it all – racism then and now – multi-millions come together through music…
“Life is full of ups and downs… the carousels of love. Good times, bad times, smiles and frowns… Don’t give up on me…,” are words uttered by Damian Marley on his latest release “Stony Hill.” His 6th album, his brother Stephen joins him, on the songs “Medication,” “Grown & Sexy,” and “Perfect Picture.”
Bruno Mars is without question a Funk-A-Teer! He recently wrecked stages at the Grammy and iHeart awards, kicking off an International tour later this month, this weekend he does two nights in Vegas. I’ve been feeling Mars’ music since his collaboration w/ B.o.B. on “They’ve Got Nothing on You.” Now he’s a worldwide sensation.
Blink-182, Gallant, Lukas Graham, Mike Posner, PartyNextDoor and SOJA are all among the Grammy Award nominees for 2017. Recently I did an article on the fact that Blink has never won a Grammy. The veterans in music among those mentioned, it’s their first time among Grammy nominees, I’m hoping their CD “California” is their “Golden Ticket” for Best Rock Album. http://museumofuncutfunk.com/2016/10/03/didnt-blink-182-win-a-grammy-a-musical-yorn/
I like to drop my FUNKIEST MUSIC list of the year prior to the Grammy nominations. As the announcements are this morning, I’m always curious, to see how the academy will measure up – Yeah I said it! The eighth year for a FUNKALICIOUS Top Album list it’s varied from 10 to 25.
A couple of classics were released this past year, a few tributes, music from some that are jazz favorites and a couple of relative new-comers. Harry Connick’s new release is a little different from what is longtime fans may be used to from him. His CD “That Would Be Me” was released this month. Herb Alpert’s “Come Fly with Me,” became available last month, as well as Lizz Wright’s “Freedom & Surrender.” http://museumofuncutfunk.com/2015/09/17/for-the-funkin-love-of-lizz/
My Top-10 and favorites for 2012 ranged from a legend to the future in music. Bonnie Raitt is a nine-time Grammy winner. At this year’s ceremony she won her tenth – and first since 1996 – for “Slipstream”, taking the Best Americana Album honor.
It’s amazing how we meet people some times and have an instant bond with them. “We took a liking to him right away”, “There’s just something about her you love”, we’ve all heard at some point or at least (hopefully) in context. Such was the case for me with Amy Winehouse almost ten years ago now.
