Given my last blog and props to T.I.’s latest artist of promise that is Iggy, I felt the need for a follow-up due to Forbes’ blatant pop-cultural faux pas. A writer, whose name won’t be mentioned, recently put his foot in his mouth and felt a need to retract and apologize. Forbes is a financial publication, not XXL or an authority on pop-culture, and certainly not hip-hop.
Over the years, millions of people and the NAACP have taken offense to the lack of a black presence in Hollywood and films produced there. Last night at the NAACP Awards, Directors Guild of America (DGA) President Paris Barclay and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) chief Cheryl Boone Isaacs, were inducted into the NAACP Hall of Fame at the organization’s 45th annual Image Awards ceremony.
Some television shows celebrate their 200th episode. Generally T-V programs will review and/ or reflect on shows past, when celebrating the 200th show. That’s very appropriate for television, and I suppose I could touch on a few of my favorite blogs over the past five years, but I believe speaking on public figures that are anti-FUNK or just plain FUNKED UP may be more intriguing.
Hey – What up Depp Head 🙂 Our man Johnny’s new movie starts today – YEA! Although it’s called “The Lone Ranger” it’s all about Tonto — why? Because it’s JOHNNY DEPP! Happy that his adventures as a pirate have been successful, I’m all for the new role. The trailer looks like we’re in for that old cheesy flavor accompanied with brand new technology — party favors and popcorn a must.
My writings are mostly fluff, what I consider controversial when I want to be. The works of Michael Hastings and Edward Snowden is serious stuff. My hats off to those that keep us, the American public, informed about what we have a right to know about. My condolences to the friends and family of Michael Hastings, as I can not imagine their torment during this time.
Tyler’s back with a new drama called “Temptation.” Starring Jurnee Smollett-Bell, Jurnee’s not a junior miss anymore. Initially intrigued to watch the trailer by an ad with huge ruby red lips in the subway, I didn’t recognize Smollett when I first saw the trailer.
According to the Huffington Post: Oceana, an advocacy organization devoted to “protecting the world’s oceans,” and the latest to test fish samples, would have us believe that the fish mislabeling problem is dire, dire, dire…
Seal’s new CD “SOUL 2” is in stores. A follow-up to his “SOUL” release, it’s a collection of covers by some of music’s greatest performers. Although Seal has a new album out, he’s singing a different tune in regards to his marriage to fashion icon Heidi Klum. Klium and Seal were a power couple! Two accomplished people in their respective fields that came together by way of commonalities in their lifestyles, they had a tremendous presence.
Aretha Franklin celebrated her 70th birthday yesterday! DAMN!!! God bless her, she is truly anointed – YES! Twas not long ago that she was very ill, and yet she’s still with us, as we continue to mourn the passing of her god-daughter Whitney Houston. Houston’s mom Cissy, sang back-up for Franklin, Mahalia Jackson and Elvis Presley, in addition to forging a solo career. It’s sad and unfortunate when a parent has to bury a child, I sympathize with Ms. Houston for her loss. As it’s too often it seems that our stars on earth continually fall from the sky, from grace or off the face of the planet…
