Blink-182, Gallant, Lukas Graham, Mike Posner, PartyNextDoor and SOJA are all among the Grammy Award nominees for 2017. Recently I did an article on the fact that Blink has never won a Grammy. So I have either heard these albums in their entirety and listened to them incessantly; heard one or a few tracks; heard of or know of the artist; LOVE the artist, or got a recommendation to listen to the album, from a fellow music enthusiast. Recently my friend Gary Harris, who happens to be a former EMI A&R exec, has been criticized and bashed by several fans and other outlets on the web. One who introduced me to the music of D’Angelo back in 1992 prior to it’s release while I was at WBLS, he wrote an open letter to the artist, expressing a personal point of view.
As I list my Top-10 for 2009, find there were not of albums I really loved. Maybe I missed a few, or were we just so saturated in 2008 that a lot of the good music from then just carried over into to last year. In any case, here are my favorites…
It’s been a minute since my last blog entry. As we approach the end of 2009, the year 2010 has got to be Funky! Chillin’ in my Brooklyn lair, I’m looking forward to the victories and new beginnings that 2010 will bring.
Ever since his death, music artists, bands, friends and fans have been paying tribute to Michael Jackson. The same week of his passing, BET changed the program of their entire awards show, to pay tribute to “The King of Pop.” BET began the event by playing a clip from a previous year, when Michael Jackson honored “The Godfather of Soul” James Brown. Michael draped JB with a cape, after he performed at the BET Awards that paid tribute to him.
