Recently my friend Gary Harris, who happens to be a former EMI A&R exec, has been criticized and bashed by several fans and other outlets on the web. One who introduced me to the music of D’Angelo back in 1992 prior to it’s release while I was at WBLS, he wrote an open letter to the artist, expressing a personal point of view.
Chris Rock is presently shooting his new film “Finally Famous.” Starring Kevin Hart, Rosario Dawson, Gabrielle Union and Rock, it’s said to be an edgy showbiz-themed comedy with romance. Given the Hart/ Rock combo, in addition to the talents of J.B. Smoove, Sherri Shepherd, Romany Malco and rising starlet Haley Marie Norman, I anticipate lots of laughs. “Finally Famous” is Rock’s third direction, following his features “Head of State” and “I Think I Love My Wife.”
The premiere for Spike Lee’s “Red Hook Summer” was this past Monday night, after the director and cast engaged in interviews throughout the day to promote the film. Here’s a summation of the event according to his publicist, The 135th Street Agency, headed by Shante Bacon.
A few months ago, ESPN aired a documentary directed by Nelson George called The Announcement. I just had an opportunity to watch this. If you missed it, this is highly recommended viewing for basketball fans, students of sports history and most importantly Magic fans.
