Rest In Power Brother Prince Rogers Nelson… On April 21st last year when Prince passed away, the loss was felt around the world for days afterwards, as exemplified by these photos below:
Bruno Mars is without question a Funk-A-Teer! He recently wrecked stages at the Grammy and iHeart awards, kicking off an International tour later this month, this weekend he does two nights in Vegas. I’ve been feeling Mars’ music since his collaboration w/ B.o.B. on “They’ve Got Nothing on You.” Now he’s a worldwide sensation.
Above all, I’m grateful for my blessings, I can truly say that. This coward that took the lives of so many innocent people in Orlando should not be called a terrorist. It was a horrific occurrence, and while I do consider acts of violence terrorist acts, this weakling for lack of better description isn’t worthy.
Living 57 years is great, but if he were still here, he’d be 58. The ‘Controversy’ concerning his estate is a disgrace. People with a ‘Dirty Mind’, making claims to what he created, ‘Must Be Something in the Water They Drink.’
80 Empire a.k.a. The Rezza Brothers and Andrea Godin are all from Canada, but their favorite music, was made in the lower half of North America. The production duo and rising pop star got together and revamped Godin’s song “Falling.”
Roger Ortega, a.k.a. RO, has hit “The Lottery”! It wasn’t by way of a “Lottery” ticket though, but through his choices to relish in his fortune, and appreciating the benefits that life has afforded him. Ortega started his first group, Slo Motion, at the age of 14. These days he’s rollin’ solo, as an artist, with the undying support of his loving family.
Prince’s release “Hit N Run,” was a definite favorite of mine last year… http://museumofuncutfunk.com/2015/12/07/the-funky-top-10-for-2015/ – Now his majesty has followed it up with “Hit N Run: Phase Two”…
I like to drop my FUNKIEST MUSIC list of the year prior to the Grammy nominations. As the announcements are this morning, I’m always curious, to see how the academy will measure up – Yeah I said it! The eighth year for a FUNKALICIOUS Top Album list it’s varied from 10 to 25.
FUNK IS GOOD! FUNK is everything you think is Funky, and it doesn’t matter, if nobody else is Groovin’ to it – can ya dig it. FUNK is UNIVERSAL, and it’s the FUNKY string of the universe, that ties us all together. FUNK can be the stench from a dumpster, but my favorite FUNK, is the musical genre. Louis Jordan is the Troglodyte of FUNK music! “The Godfather of Soul,” James Brown, is the quintessential Pioneer of FUNK! Sly Stone, is the Godfather of FUNK and Rick James is the King of Funk-n-Roll. The collective artists of PARLIAMENT – FUNKADELIC featuring George Clinton and Bootsy Collins, took FUNK into the stratosphere, while Kool and the Gang kept it Dirty and Down to Earth…
All true Prince friends, fans and admirers don’t believe he makes any bad music, we just like some of his albums more than others. I honestly have not heard all of his releases, in their entirety over the past several years, but his latest CD “HIT n RUN” is FUN!
Back in the day, “Krush Groove”, was the quintessential hip-hop flick. It was released through Warner Brothers studios in 1985, one year after the success of Prince’s “Purple Rain”, and starred his then protégé and companion Sheila E. Although rap and the culture of hip-hop, are rooted in advocating anti-establishment values and not “selling out”, ever since “Boyz N’ the Hood”, it’s been all about cashing in.
The following are 10 songs recorded over the past 80 years, that express the sentiment of not being tied down, or succumbing to the “establishment.” For True Independence – Enjoy!
As long as I’ve been alive there’s been war. Taken from npr.org: “The U.S. is going to deploy more military trainers to Iraq. President Obama has approved sending 450 more Americans in the effort to take back Anbar province from the self-proclaimed Islamic State. That’s the largely Sunni region which stretches west from Baghdad to the border with Syria, Jordan and Saudi Arabia. Iraqi government forces have done poorly against ISIS.”
This year marks the 20th year for the Essence Music Festival!!! An INCREDIBLE FUNKIN’ event, it started out as a celebration, for Essence magazine’s 25th anniversary. After the first year, it was clear, at the very least another was required.
This is the best collection of T-Shirts I’ve seen that honor the legend that is Jimi Hendrix. A lover of his music for years, I wanted to bring this incredible website to the attention of those, that regularly and/ or periodically read this blog.
On the day after Eric Holder announces the results of the Federal Investigation on Ferguson… Shonda Rhimes incorporates the essence of current events on “Scandal,” presenting the horror of the Michael Brown case and addressing the issue of “illegal immigrants”, via “Olivia Pope” ala Kerry Washington.
Earlier this year, I posted portions of an article originally published through the blog insideplaya, about D’Angelo. A tough love piece, it rendered facts about the business of the music industry, the legacy of FUNK, and Michael “D’Angelo” Archer’s career.
There was a lot of FUNKY Music this year! Not limited to the genre of FUNK, several icons and legends in music released new albums, as well as some of music’s newer FUNKY artists. Here’s the FUNKALICIOUS list for 2014…
What’s happening folks, it’s S.D., your favorite OG (older gent) here! Reflecting on some of my favorite musical artists of the 70’s (1970-1979). It was during these times that I personally enjoyed the natural development and maturation of some already known R&B acts. In addition to being introduced to new musicians from the “DISCO” era.
Last year I wrote an item titled “Missing the Funkiest Moment.” It was about how so many people nowadays that go to live performances, and truly miss the essence of the show they’re attending. You Are At The Show, you should enjoy it, not spend time trying to record it to watch later. I feel confident in my knowledge of this, as I have been so fortunate to see so many shows, since I was a teen.
