Daniel Caesar is nominated for Best R&B Album at next year’s Grammy ceremony. One of several R&B talents that have emerged out of Canada, Caesar is an independent artist, in this streaming age of music. Liken to fellow Canadians, Justin Beiber and The Weeknd, his fan base spawned from the Internet.
Racism is alive and casting lots of un-wellness among the people of our nation. While millions find it hard to believe… “Stay Woke,” as it’s when one is blind that ye suffers most. Through it all – racism then and now – multi-millions come together through music…
I don’t believe the The Recording Academy will deny selecting Halsey or Lukas Graham for Best New Artist at next year’s Grammy Awards.
Although Adele is primarily noted for her voice, it’s all about the lyrics and music, that make a song. As popular as she is today, my love for her has grown, since she initially took the world stage. Dreezy has taken the world of music by storm and has been hailed as the “Princess of Chicago Rap.” Her album “No Hard Feelings” dropped this past summer, and she’s also featured on Aluna George’s track “Mean What I Mean,” from his latest, “I Remember.”
They actually haven’t. A band that’s been around since 1995, they’ve performed at the ceremony, presented there, even announced Tom DeLonge returning to the band there.
I find I have to search for new music every year. Apart from those that are promoted heavily, generally consumers are left in the dark, unless they go surfing online or hear about something by word of mouth. Last year one of my favorites, that seems like it will never stop getting exposure, is the song “Rise Up” by Andra Day.
Roger Ortega, a.k.a. RO, has hit “The Lottery”! It wasn’t by way of a “Lottery” ticket though, but through his choices to relish in his fortune, and appreciating the benefits that life has afforded him. Ortega started his first group, Slo Motion, at the age of 14. These days he’s rollin’ solo, as an artist, with the undying support of his loving family.
The 58th Grammy Awards ceremony will be held on Monday, February 15, 2016 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California. A couple months ago, I wrote about a few artists I believed were worthy of recognition, and they’re all among the artists nominated…
In the midst of societal ills and personal challenges I look to family and music for solace. Holy Moly! There are a few things that I am remiss about discovering at this juncture and some new releases and tunes forthcoming that I’m very excited to hear. Music serves as therapy for me, and is and will always be, the universal language that conjoins the hearts and minds of humanity.
Prince is releasing not one, but 2 new albums this fall. Expected for release on September 30th, “Art Official Age,” is a solo project and “Plectrumelectrum,” is the long anticipated project that features 3rdEyeGirl. Friends and fans may already have seen the video for the previously released single, “Breakfast Can Wait,” which features Dave Chapelle on the cover art – if not, go here… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GHbyNrGXpAA…
Patti LaBelle is back on Broadway this month! Appearing in the stage production of “After Midnight,” she fills in where Vanessa Williams, Toni Braxton and Fantasia have all taken bows, opposite Dule Hill http://museumofuncutfunk.com/2014/02/25/vanessa-williams-funks-up-broadway-again/. Earlier this year, I had to put a friend up on the meaning of posthumous — I forget what I was referencing. According to Webster’s it means: happening, done, or published after someone’s death; born after the death of the father; published after the death of the author; and/ or following or occurring after death. For friends and fans of a music artist, posthumous is generally a dirty and undesirable word.
I love Calvin Broadus aka Snoop Dogg, aka Snoop Lion, aka Snoopzilla!?!? Ah yeah, you thought Sean Combs was the only one that could dub himself multiple names, think again. Snoop Dogg has been doing his thang now for 20 years. Known around the world for his music as a rapper and a force in hip-hop, Snoop has released an album in tribute to FUNK.
The City of Chicago honored ten-time Grammy Award winner Chaka Khan this past weekend by naming a street after her. A ceremony took place on Saturday, July 27th, christening “Chaka Khan Way”, and Sunday, July 28th, has now been declared “Chaka Khan Day” in Chicago, which is the FUNKY singer’s hometown. Born Yvette Marie Stevens on March 23, 1953, Chaka made her presence known during the 1970s.
Stevie Wonder, Kings of Leon, Alicia Keys and John Mayer will headline the second Global Citizen Festival in Central Park on September 28th according to a USA Today article. The event is timed around the United Nations General Assembly meeting in New York. The United Nations General Assembly meeting promotes a movement to end extreme poverty by 2030.
A fan of “True Blood” since its inception, I’ve noticed a little extra flavor this season. We’re about at the halfway mark and it looks like we’ll be killing “Warlow” on Sunday judging from the previews — I was thinking it was gonna take all season, but I digress, back to the FUNK. Retta from the sitcom “Parks and Recreation” hosted the season premiere at club “Fangtasia” for starters.
