Bruno Mars is without question a Funk-A-Teer! He recently wrecked stages at the Grammy and iHeart awards, kicking off an International tour later this month, this weekend he does two nights in Vegas. I’ve been feeling Mars’ music since his collaboration w/ B.o.B. on “They’ve Got Nothing on You.” Now he’s a worldwide sensation.

Aretha Franklin, Barbra Streisand and Smokey Robinson all have new music out. Streisand and Robinson’s CDs are duet projects, and Franklin’s release is an album of covers, including classics from Etta James to Adele.
Chrysler just released their new commercial featuring Berry Gordy riding in their new Motown 300C. This spot is supposed to air during the Super Bowl. It is nice to see Gordy and Motown get the accolades they deserve. Give them their flowers while they are here…
Berry Gordy and some of his most famous musical proteges hit the great white way Thursday night for a star studded preview of the new broadway production based on his life story. A crowd of 1200 people were treated to a 90 minute preview of the show that opens on April 14, 2013 at the Lunt Fontaine Theater. Previews begin March 11, 2013.
UPDATE: Motown: The Musical will hit Broadway on on April 14, 2013 at the Lunt Fontaine Theatre (205 West 46 Street). Preview performances will begin March 11, 2013. The cast has been set. Tickets will go on sale October 1st.
Can you believe that Sesame Street turned 40 in 2009? I was lucky enough to see this revolutionary children’s educational series at the very beginning, when in my opinion it was the best show on TV. Ask any body else who was a kid under 5 at that time and they will tell you the same thing.
Seal’s new CD “SOUL 2” is in stores. A follow-up to his “SOUL” release, it’s a collection of covers by some of music’s greatest performers. Although Seal has a new album out, he’s singing a different tune in regards to his marriage to fashion icon Heidi Klum. Klium and Seal were a power couple! Two accomplished people in their respective fields that came together by way of commonalities in their lifestyles, they had a tremendous presence.
Nick Ashford, one-half of the legendary Motown songwriting duo Ashford & Simpson that penned elegant, soulful classics for Diana Ross and Marvin Gaye, has died at the age of 69 from throat cancer.
Doing interviews with Teena Marie was an absolute highlight of my career in music. Having spoken to Rick James at least three times, chatting with her, was like adding to the anatomy of my body of FUNK encounters. While most females recognized in the genre of FUNK are considered to be R&B artists, one can not deny the FUNKessential contributions of Teena Marie.
