DRE’S NEW “COMPTON” FUNK!

20 Sounds of Sirens, Soulful Spirits, Icons & FUNK – “Empire” is #1

20 Sounds of Sirens, Soulful Spirits, Icons & FUNK – “Empire” is #1

In the midst of societal ills and personal challenges I look to family and music for solace. Holy Moly! There are a few things that I am remiss about discovering at this juncture and some new releases and tunes forthcoming that I’m very excited to hear. Music serves as therapy for me, and is and will always be, the universal language that conjoins the hearts and minds of humanity.

FUNKY NAUGHTY KATY PERRY

FUNKY NAUGHTY KATY PERRY

Katy Perry’s new single “Roar” will surely take the number-one spot on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart next week.  The song was held off from taking the top of the chart by Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines,” which holds the position for an 11th week.  The hit tune, featuring T.I. and Pharrell, leads “Radio Songs” for a seventh week according to Nielsen BDS reports.  Thike’s track barely held off Perry’s “Roar,” which went from 85 to Number-2, following its first full week of single sales.

J. COLE VS. KANYE: FUNKIN’ HIP-HOP TODAY & YESTERDAY

J. COLE VS. KANYE: FUNKIN’ HIP-HOP TODAY & YESTERDAY

Who’s Hot in Hip-Hop?  Where’s Real Hip-Hop At?  Questions those seeking always hear and will pose from time to time.  It’s ALIVE and doing just fine.  While there’s only some that appeals to me, ALL of it never did.  There’s “rappers” out there that want to dis MCs for combining singing with rap, when rap is what R&B is today.  I enjoy both, those that give it to me straight and those that flow with a melody.

WHAT DA FUNK DRE? WHERE’S THE ALBUM AT?

THIS IS AN “OPEN LETTER” TO MY FAVORITE HIP-HOP PRODUCER DR. DRE.  WARNING: This Blog May Contain Language Not Suitable for Small Children and Is Only for Those Who Really Love the Music of Dr. Dre.  It’s not for the meek or easily offended at the rant of a hip-hop advocate and enthusiast.  That said, it’s simply metaphysically time for new music from Dre.  If you agree with me, I need you to prove it, I need you to tweet, share, e-mail, and get on the phone so this message goes viral.  If you’re not down with that, stop here, this blog’s not for you.

FOREVER FUNKED UP RE(A)D MESSAGES OF FEAR, DEATH, SEX & DEFEAT

OR The Power of Red & Black in Advertising.  The “Temptation” ad from my previous blog inspired this.  Since the beginning of advertising the “creative mind” has literally banked on fear and nothing has changed.  The all ever popular soap commercials of radio, that led to the soap commercials for soap operas on TV, are steeped in fear.  Yes of course we need and use soap for cleaning things we use daily and our personal hygiene, however it’s the way the message is shaped.

BOOTSY’S BACK!!! The FUNKIN’ BASS of Bootsy!

BOOTSY’S BACK!!! The FUNKIN’ BASS of Bootsy!

Bootsy Collins is without a doubt one of the greatest bass players to have walked the face of the earth. Among the greatest of all time are James Jamerson and Bob Babbitt of Motown fame; Larry Graham (Graham Central Station/ Sly and the Family Stone); Stanley Clarke; Victor Wooten; Louis Jagger Johnson aka ‘Thunder Thumbs” (The Brothers Johnson); Flea (Red Hot Chili Peppers); Paul McCarrtney (The Beatles); Cliff Burton (Metallica); John Entwhistle (the Who); Geddy Lee (Rush); John Paul Jones (Led Zeppelin); Jack Bruce (Cream); Les Claypool (Primus) and Doug Wimbish (Living Color). Bootsy is definitely my favorite.
