There was a lot of FUNKY Music this year! Not limited to the genre of FUNK, several icons and legends in music released new albums, as well as some of music’s newer FUNKY artists. Here’s the FUNKALICIOUS list for 2014…
Last year I wrote an item titled “Missing the Funkiest Moment.” It was about how so many people nowadays that go to live performances, and truly miss the essence of the show they’re attending. You Are At The Show, you should enjoy it, not spend time trying to record it to watch later. I feel confident in my knowledge of this, as I have been so fortunate to see so many shows, since I was a teen.
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! 2012 – Wow! Peace Love & Abundant Blessings to Everyone. I hope and trust all are in great mind & spirit… Coldplay’s MYLO XYLOTO, a Christmas gift from my beautiful wonderful wife, rounds out my top-10 for favorite CDs in 2011. To my brother Jeff Cornell I have no doubt I’ll love the new “Portugal The Man” once I get it, but in terms of stuff I’ve heard and enjoyed…
Soul Singer and Rock Star Amy Winehouse has passed away. Although she was only 27, she made an indelible impression on the world of music amidst her short lived career. Her debut CD “Frank” virtually went unnoticed initially in the United States, but by the time it hit the streets of London back in 2003, she was already a well known performer in the UK community. Her 2006 release, “Back to Black,” put her on the proverbial map and earned her six Grammy nominations that resulted in five wins.
How can I let 2010 (10) go by w/o listing my Top-10 favorite CDs? While the Top-10 list for many of us has taken a back seat to more pressing things in life, I believe it’s because there’s been less music that’s been inspiring for us to mention.
If there’s some FUNKIER new MUSIC in stores right now, PLEASE, let a brother know. While browsing Best Buy recently, I came upon the new Black Keys CD “Brothers.” Priced at 10-dollars, I grabbed it based on the sonic fusion of soul, blues and rock of their last CD “Attack and Release.”
Why do some of us feel compelled to do a Top-10 music list at the end of each year? There are several answers I suppose… for me, it’s primarily to let those closest to me, ones that share my musical taste, know what the FUNK-iest music I’ve heard, is. Beyond that, I hope to reach others who are seeking fresh, motivating, head-boppin’, gut moving, foot tappin’, eye opening, FUNKALICIOUS flavored, groovy, neck bendin’ sounds… they may not have encountered yet.
