It’s quite a diverse bunch, but they’re all worth a watch. “Jeff Lynne’s ELO: Wembley or Bust,” “Joan Jett: Bad Reputation,” and “Elvis Presley: The Searcher” are three musical documentaries that capture the essence of the artists featured in each of them.
Chris Rock is presently shooting his new film “Finally Famous.” Starring Kevin Hart, Rosario Dawson, Gabrielle Union and Rock, it’s said to be an edgy showbiz-themed comedy with romance. Given the Hart/ Rock combo, in addition to the talents of J.B. Smoove, Sherri Shepherd, Romany Malco and rising starlet Haley Marie Norman, I anticipate lots of laughs. “Finally Famous” is Rock’s third direction, following his features “Head of State” and “I Think I Love My Wife.”
Hey – What up Depp Head 🙂 Our man Johnny’s new movie starts today – YEA! Although it’s called “The Lone Ranger” it’s all about Tonto — why? Because it’s JOHNNY DEPP! Happy that his adventures as a pirate have been successful, I’m all for the new role. The trailer looks like we’re in for that old cheesy flavor accompanied with brand new technology — party favors and popcorn a must.
Spike Lee and Spike Jonze both have new films in theaters this fall. Two of today’s most innovative directors, they both have a distinctive style that sets them apart from men behind the camera of yesteryear. In addition to displaying aspects of the human condition, Jonze and Lee get to deliver it in ways Hollywood only, and never dreamed of. Before “Being John Malcovich” was released, there had never been a film quite like it. Once Lee made his way into the fray, more black people began working in the industry of film than ever before.
