The FUNK of Amy Winehouse / The Art of BLUE-Eyed SOUL
Soul Singer and Rock Star Amy Winehouse has passed away. Although she was only 27, she made an indelible impression on the world of music amidst her short lived career. Her debut CD “Frank” virtually went unnoticed initially in the United States, but by the time it hit the streets of London back in 2003, she was already a well known performer in the UK community. Her 2006 release, “Back to Black,” put her on the proverbial map and earned her six Grammy nominations that resulted in five wins.
Jazmine Sullivan FUNKS It Up with Vanity 6
Jazmine Sullivan’s new CD “Love Me Back” is one of the best R&B offerings in a long while. The project incorporates hip-hop, jazz and funk all cooked up in an R&B stew that has a fresh sound, while infusing a recognizable retro groove. Better than her debut CD “Fearless,” it was released too late for Grammy consideration this year. However, the first single “Holding You Down (Going In Circles)” from the album, is up for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance.
My Top 10 for Music in 2010
How can I let 2010 (10) go by w/o listing my Top-10 favorite CDs? While the Top-10 list for many of us has taken a back seat to more pressing things in life, I believe it’s because there’s been less music that’s been inspiring for us to mention.
The Funkiest Music of 2008
Why do some of us feel compelled to do a Top-10 music list at the end of each year? There are several answers I suppose… for me, it’s primarily to let those closest to me, ones that share my musical taste, know what the FUNK-iest music I’ve heard, is. Beyond that, I hope to reach others who are seeking fresh, motivating, head-boppin’, gut moving, foot tappin’, eye opening, FUNKALICIOUS flavored, groovy, neck bendin’ sounds… they may not have encountered yet.
