It was during these times that I personally enjoyed the natural development and maturation of some already known R&B acts. In addition to being introduced to new musicians from the “DISCO” era.
According to Tommy Mottola of The Mottola Group (the producers) it looks like SuperFly The Musical is finally coming to broadway.
Darkest of night with the moon shining bright. There’s a set goin’ strong lotta things goin’ on. The man of the hour has an air of great power. The dudes have envied him for so long…Super Fly!
Yes I love Super Fly! I loved Ron O’Neal’s portrayal of this really Kool Cat who was a street hustling cocaine dealer who wanted nothing more than to get out of the game. The Museum of UnCut Funk celebrates the 40th anniversary of Super Fly, on August 4, 2012.

New York Funkin’ City And Harlem, USA
As you know, I love Blaxploitation. What I dig most about these films is that a number of them took place in NYC. With all the jive-talking, gun-toting, leather-wearing, cocaine and heroin sniffin’ pimps, not to mention the outrageous outfits, cars and of course the women, all of these films had a funky inner-city vibe that was quite campy and extremely cheesy. I JUST LOVE IT!!!
Could blaxploitation meet Broadway? It’s an obvious question that comes up with news that Bill T. Jones, the director and choreographer, will spend three weeks next month developing “Super Fly: The Musical” in New York.

Sade is not a funk band, nor is the lead singer for which the band was named a Funk vocalist, but I don’t believe anyone would dispute that they have given us some Funky music. To that end, her voice has definitely lifted many souls from a Funky place with her soothing tone.
