When I had the fortune to interview Millie Jackson, she spoke to me about her endeavors from the Apollo Theatre to Broadway. We laughed a lot, as she was very candid with me about her unique style and the ups and downs of her career.
Ms. Jackson shared with me how her music was selected for the soundtrack of the movie “Cleopatra Jones,” that starred the late Tamara Dobson. “Hurt So Good” and “I Need a Love Doctor” were the two songs on the album. The music of Millie Jackson is so FUNKY, because she is one of the first women in music to really “Keep It Real.” While she has mellowed in this latter day, Ms. Jackson was using explicit lyrics, looong before record companies made a warning label. Kickin’ it with Millie was definitely one of the most fun and down to earth sessions I ever conducted. Check it out!
