Wow! If Serena Williams isn’t winning a tennis tournament, she’s popping up on magazine covers or in an (almost) ad for a new video game. The FUNK of Serena can’t be stopped. The winner of The French Open for the second time, she graces the cover of Essence magazine for the July issue.
At 31, she’s the second oldest woman to win a major title since Martina Navratilova won Wimbledon in 1990 at age 33, with her 2nd win at the recent French Open. Williams, who has a home in Paris, is already thinking about winning again next year. “I love Paris,” she said, “I spend a lot of time here. I live here. I practice here. I think I am a Parisian.” Currently dating her French coach Patrick Mouratoglou, she’ll be a heavy favorite to win Wimbledon for the sixth time.
Serena Jameka Williams is currently ranked Number-One in women’s singles tennis. The Women’s Tennis Association has ranked her the top in singles six times now. She did it the first time in July of 2002, and regained the title for the sixth time in February of this year, becoming the oldest world Number-One player in WTA’s history. She is the only female player to have won over 40-million dollars in prize money. Williams is the reigning French Open, Wimbledon, US Open, WTA Tour Championships and Olympic ladies singles champion.
Regarded as one of the greatest tennis players of all time, Williams is the only player to have achieved a Career Golden Slam in both singles and doubles. She won the doubles playing with her sister Venus. Her 31 Grand Slam titles ties her for eighth on the all-time list.
Gracing the cover of Essence magazine for the second time, it’s her first time appearing solo. Here’s she is pictured twice on Essence; Sports Illustrated; and The Hamptons mag covers, as well as Ebony and Jet, among others she’s blessed.
Serena is definitely not “Bad on the Eyes” and has been noted on several occasions as being one of the most beautiful and sexiest women in sports. She even did the cover of ESPN magazine’s “Body Issue.”
Serena also did an ad for a PlayStation game, that toted her as the “The World’s Sexiest Tennis Player.” It actually never launched, but you can see it here:
