All true Prince friends, fans and admirers don’t believe he makes any bad music, we just like some of his albums more than others. I honestly have not heard all of his releases, in their entirety over the past several years, but his latest CD “HIT n RUN” is FUN!
Essentially a follow-up to “Art Official Age,” I think “Hit n Run”, is the “Little Red Corvette” I’d rather ride in. I don’t know if I’ve enjoyed any of his releases as much since “3121,” considering “Fury” and “Incense and Candles,” are the most recent tracks that I’ve dropped into my i-pod… before now. The new release starts off with excerpts from his previous works, and then proceeds to render some old Prince flavor. While I like the entire presentation, it’s the second half, that really gets the purple juices flowing.
Stand-outs for me are “This Could B Us”; “Fallinlove2nite,” in which he delivers a falsetto emulating a woman; “X’s Face”; “Hardrocklover,” which at first glance I thought said “Hardcocklover,” but in essence is the sentiment of the song; and “1000 X’s & O’s.” Again, there are no bad Prince records, these are just muh favs.
Exclusively released through Jay-Z’s online outlet Tidal initially on September 7th, it’s now available on i-tunes, Amazon and in stores, the wife surprised me with a hard copy tonight! We read an article that joked, that Prince went to more sources, because he realized his music wasn’t selling on Tidal. Here’s Prince’s statement from Pitchfork, as to why he went with Jay-Z’s online service: “After one meeting, it was obvious that Jay Z and the team he has assembled at TIDAL recognize and applaud the effort that real musicians put in2 their craft 2 achieve the very best they can at this pivotal time in the music industry. Secondly, TIDAL have honored Us with a non-restrictive arrangement that once again allows Us to continue making art in the fashion We’ve grown accustomed 2 and We’re Extremely grateful 4 their generous support. And lastly, in the tech-savvy, real-time world We all live in 2day, everything is faster. From its conception and that one & only meeting, HITNRUN took about 90 days 2 prepare its release. If that’s what freedom feels like, HITNRUN is what it sounds like.”
His Highness was on the road earlier this year ala a tour of the same name, no word yet when he’ll return, but I imagine it’ll be soon. I just had to say a little something, as it’s been a minute since, my last Prince blog. In conclusion, for all those that LOVE him, you already know — for anyone reading that simply likes Prince, you may LOVE “Hit n Run.” The album features guest shots from Rita Ora, Curly Fryz, and Lianne La Havas, and was co-produced, arranged, composed and performed by JoshuaWorld
In salute to his Majesty
