Why do some of us feel compelled to do a Top-10 music list at the end of each year? There are several answers I suppose… for me, it’s primarily to let those closest to me, ones that share my musical taste, know what the FUNK-iest music I’ve heard, is. Beyond that, I hope to reach others who are seeking fresh, motivating, head-boppin’, gut moving, foot tappin’, eye opening, FUNKALICIOUS flavored, groovy, neck bendin’ sounds… they may not have encountered yet.
As The Museum of UnCut Funk was founded in February of this year, although my first blog preceding this was published in April, I simply had to do a Top-10 for the year 2008. I promise to do entry’s earlier for the years to come. There was so much good FUNKIN’ music out in 2008, I actually had to do a Top-20.
Sia – Some People Have Real Problems
The Mars Volta – The Bedlam in Goliath
Kings of Leon – Only By The Night
Jennifer Hudson – Jennifer Hudson
The Black Keys – Attack and Release
Erykah Badu – New Amerykah Part One: 4th World War
Anthony Hamilton – The Point of it All
Gnarls Barkley – The Odd Couple
If I have not heard the majority of a CD from top to bottom, I don’t put it in the “top” countdown. A few I imagine I would love, heard in part, and others I have really enjoyed that get honorable mentions are:
Raphael Saadiq – The Way I See It
Nas – Nas (the CD formerly titled Ni**er)
I didn’t expect to end up with more than a couple artists when I started the “honorable mentions” list, but I ended up with 6 – for the LOVE OF GOOD FUNKIN MUSIC…
