Dave Chapelle wraps a run of shows in Atlanta tomorrow night. The brilliant sketch comedian began his run of performances on Thursday at ATL’s Tabernacle concert hall, which sold out almost immediately, prompting LIVE Nation to add more shows. Chapelle’s closing show marks seven sold out sets, that included opening night; and early and late shows on Friday, Saturday and Sunday… I smell a DVD. Eight shows evolving from one initial scheduled show, THAT’S FUNKY!!!
The DVD is my idea so I don’t know if that’s happening, as no cameras were evident on the premises through the weekend, but Chapelle had fans rolling in the aisles. Folks can still catch him on the road. He’s one half of “The Oddball Comedy & Curiosity Festival” along with Flight of the Concords. The guys are doing a month long tour beginning on August 23rd in Austin, Texas, closing on September 22nd in Phoenix, Arizona. The show hits cities like Dallas; Clarkston, MI; Camden & Holmdel, NJ; Englewood, CO; and Irvine & Mountainview, CA in between.
Dave has done several spot dates since the close of his show on Comedy Central, but this is outing is the first run of consecutive dates. I’m glad to see him back out and active. I’ve actually had the fortune to see him do stand-up twice, and even interviewed him prior to the success of his show — he’s as cool and as down to earth as you would imagine him to be.
Dave is featured in the documentary “Richard Pryor: Omit the Logic,” which is currently running on Showtime. It airs again on August 10th & 13th on Showtime 2, for a full list of dates, click here: http://www.sho.com/sho/reality-docs/titles/3361052/richard-pryor-omit-the-logic#/index
