Last week Roger Moore passed away. Admittedly not my favorite “James Bond,” he gets nothing but props for holding down the franchise, and taking on the role more than any other actor. Moore himself, expressed that Daniel Craig is the “Best Bond,” in his opinion. I’ve enjoyed Craig’s performances as well. His delivery in “Casino Royale” solidified the re-boot of the franchise and I think “Skyfall” is the best Bond feature of all.
Just off the set with Digable Planets and Ro James, among others at the Wolf Creek Amphitheater, for ATL’s Funk Fest, Erykah Badu brought the heat to the Lakefront Arena in New Orleans this Memorial Day weekend on the 28th.
Living 57 years is great, but if he were still here, he’d be 58. The ‘Controversy’ concerning his estate is a disgrace. People with a ‘Dirty Mind’, making claims to what he created, ‘Must Be Something in the Water They Drink.’
Forty years ago this February, President Gerald Ford, was the first to recognize “Black History Month.” This period of acknowledgement evolved from “Negro History Week,” that was created by historian Carter G. Lenny is dropping his new album “Strut” on September 23rd! Rockin’ since 1989, his debut album, was “Let Love Rule.” I remember his then wife, Lisa Bonet, coming to visit us at WBLS to promote her man’s new music. We played it while she sat with us in the studio, and chatted about his musical vision, when NOBODY else did. Although his sound wasn’t traditionally that, of what one would hear on an R&B station, we supported him. We were ‘BLS, we played Queen and INXS – why? Because it was Dope!
Katy Perry’s new single “Roar” will surely take the number-one spot on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart next week. The song was held off from taking the top of the chart by Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines,” which holds the position for an 11th week. The hit tune, featuring T.I. and Pharrell, leads “Radio Songs” for a seventh week according to Nielsen BDS reports. Thike’s track barely held off Perry’s “Roar,” which went from 85 to Number-2, following its first full week of single sales.
At one point amidst our daily usage of cell phones and modern technology, it seemed to me that some folks were just getting out of hand. It inspired me to do this cheesy short film, I hope you like it.
Over the years I’ve heard many words that have impressed, inspired and stuck with me. A couple I remember hearing fondly from my mother Ronna Waller and always recycle are “Better safe than sorry” and “Be careful what you wish for.” The first time I heard the phrase “People in hell want ice water – that don’t mean they get it,” was a brilliantly delivered line from Jessica Lange as Patsy Cline in the movie “Sweet Dreams.” Here’s another bakers dozen…
