blink-182, SOJA, Gallant and Lukas Graham for Your GRAMMY Consideration

Blink-182, Gallant, Lukas Graham, Mike Posner, PartyNextDoor and SOJA are all among the Grammy Award nominees for 2017.  Recently I did an article on the fact that Blink has never won a Grammy.  The veterans in music among those mentioned, it’s their first time among Grammy nominees, I’m hoping their CD “California” is their “Golden Ticket” for Best Rock Album.  http://museumofuncutfunk.com/2016/10/03/didnt-blink-182-win-a-grammy-a-musical-yorn/

MY DEFINITION OF FUNK: FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION

MY DEFINITION OF FUNK: FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION

FUNK IS GOOD!  FUNK is everything you think is Funky, and it doesn’t matter, if nobody else is Groovin’ to it – can ya dig it.  FUNK is UNIVERSAL, and it’s the FUNKY string of the universe, that ties us all together.  FUNK can be the stench from a dumpster, but my favorite FUNK, is the musical genre.  Louis Jordan is the Troglodyte of FUNK music!  “The Godfather of Soul,” James Brown, is the quintessential Pioneer of FUNK!  Sly Stone, is the Godfather of FUNK and Rick James is the King of Funk-n-Roll.  The collective artists of PARLIAMENT – FUNKADELIC featuring George Clinton and Bootsy Collins, took FUNK into the stratosphere, while Kool and the Gang kept it Dirty and Down to Earth…

20 Sounds of Sirens, Soulful Spirits, Icons & FUNK – “Empire” is #1

20 Sounds of Sirens, Soulful Spirits, Icons & FUNK – “Empire” is #1

In the midst of societal ills and personal challenges I look to family and music for solace. Holy Moly! There are a few things that I am remiss about discovering at this juncture and some new releases and tunes forthcoming that I’m very excited to hear. Music serves as therapy for me, and is and will always be, the universal language that conjoins the hearts and minds of humanity.

ANOTHER FUNKIN’ PSA – B.O.B.’s “New Black”

ANOTHER FUNKIN’ PSA – B.O.B.’s “New Black”

All three of Bobby Ray’s studio releases have made the Funkalicious lists of best albums of the year.  Ever since his first CD, “B.o.B. Presents: The Adventures of Bobby Ray,” this talented performer and producer has been droppin’ musical bombs that have exploded beyond the genre of hip-hop.  In addition to his official records, B.o.B. has also released the mixtapes “No Genre” (Import), “No Genre Pt. 2” and “New Black.”

Azealia’s New FUNK!

Azealia’s New FUNK!

Azealia Banks’ debut album, “Broke With Expensive Taste,” hit i-tunes and Spotify on November 6th.  Ever since her track “212” dropped in 2011, I’ve been looking forward to a full length project.  Interscope records picked her up soon after the single was released, but dropped her this past July.  The label released her EP “1991” in the Spring of 2012, and her mixtape “Fantasea,” followed it two months later.

Cousin Stevie’s Memories – Wonder’s “Songs in the Key of Life” in Boston

Cousin Stevie’s Memories – Wonder’s “Songs in the Key of Life” in Boston

Stevie Wonder is taking “Songs in the Key of Life” on the road!  He initially announced the tour about a year ago, but dates for the road trip, hit the Internet just last month.  I got the news via http://insideplaya.wordpress.com about a week or so ago!  I didn’t recall having heard about it before –  then I spoke to a fellow Wonder lovers, and they too said they hadn’t heard yet either.  I am generally the one to hear about major music events among my immediate family and friends — then our cousin Stevie told us that he wanted to write something for The Museum of UnCut Funk.  His inspiration, to talk about his memories connected to the album, made me begin to think of mine…

The FUNKY Top-10 for 2009

As I list my Top-10 for 2009, find there were not of albums I really loved.  Maybe I missed a few, or were we just so saturated in 2008 that a lot of the good music from then just carried over into to last year.  In any case, here are my favorites…
