How can I let 2010 (10) go by w/o listing my Top-10 favorite CDs? While the Top-10 list for many of us has taken a back seat to more pressing things in life, I believe it’s because there’s been less music that’s been inspiring for us to mention.

There was a time we’d be chomping at the bit to generate that list because you wanted to share your excitement!!! Although there’s a plethora of “hits” on the radio today, many of us are left un-inspired. Well folks, there’s still good music being made, and I believe it’s the universal thread that ties us all. That said, there’s a few pieces of music that have moved me this past year. Let me know what I’m missing, if it ain’t on my list, and you think it’s FUNKY enough to devote some time to.

TOP TEN (in no particular order):

Jazmine Sullivan – Love Me Back

Eminem – Recovery

The Black Keys – Brothers

B.o.B. – B.o.B. Presents: The Adventures of Bobby Ray

Kings of Leon – Come Around Sundown

Cee-Lo Green – The Lady Killer

Sade – Soldier of Love

La Roux – La Roux

Katy Perry – Teenage Dream

Janelle Monáe – The ArchAndroid

While I’m sure I’d love The Roots’ “How I Got Over” and Big Boi’s “Sir Lucious Left Foot… The Son of Chico Dusty,” I simply have not heard them yet. Honorable mentions that I’ve really enjoyed are R&B treasures: Fantasia’s Back To Me, Raheem DeVaughn’s The Love & War Masterpeace & Jaheim’s Another Round; Dance offering LCD Soundsystem’s “This Is Happening”; and Pop CD from Phoenix, “Wolfgang Amadeus.” On the come up… You know it’s hot when you’re chillin’ at a friends and you keep asking “Who’s this?” For me this year, it was a mixtape by J. Cole.

Agreed on all counts! Need to hear the Katy Perry album again, haven’t heard the whoe Cee-Lo Green or the whole Sade. I’m anxious to hear Janelle Monae. Finally, a noteworthy year for music!

Katy, liken to the CD cover, is just pop heaven; I have to admit I may be bias on Cee-Lo, but it’s still dope; I believe there’s actually one track on Sade’s CD I have not heard, but I’ve heard all the rest. Another confession, there are probably 3 or 4 songs on the album I REALLY LIKE, Sade makes the Top-10 because they MADE an album. My love for Sade Adu was immediate the minute I heard “Hang On to Your Love.” The band that is SADE featuring Stewart Matthewman has always kept it soulful and FUNKY w? Adu and via SWEETBACK XX ;-P
