Now I don’t typically write about music at the museum, but there are some artists that I just love and I get really excited when they release new music. So I had to put this info out to the people! There seems to be a lot going on in what I would call the “real” music category right now…
Prince
Prince has release a new song, RNR Affair. Prince is also playing multiple dates the United Center in Chicago starting on September 24 to benefit Rebuild the Dream, a group founded by activist Van Jones. “Rebuild the Dream exists to unite arts and organize into a potent force to support the Dreams of Our Communities. There are few artists who have Prince’s unwavering commitment to a vision of a sustainable, fair economic future.” Jones is quoted as saying. The “Welcome 2 Chicago” visit is Prince’s first Windy City stop since 2004.

Larry Graham
After a 13-year hiatus, Graham Central Station returns with Raise Up. Raise Up includes new versions of three classic GCS tracks, along with ten new songs. The album features guest appearances by Prince – a longtime collaborator with Graham and GCS since the late 1990s – as well as songwriter/guitarist/producer Rafael Saadiq.
The Delfonics
One of my all time favorite groups is The Delfonics. Adrian Younge, who is currently brilliantly creating the funky soundtrack for the Black Dynamite animated series, is working with William Hart from The Delfonics on new music. The new album drops in November on the Wax Poetics label so make sure that you support this effort.
Mint Condition
Mint Condition has just released their new cd, Music @ the Speed of Life, which debuted at # 9 on the Billboard R&B Album charts. With the new album, Mint Condition ventured into uncharted territories for the band. The most notable difference in the Mint sound this time around is the addition of horns. I just love horns…real musicians playing real music. Got to get a copy of this!
