Patti LaBelle is back on Broadway this month!  Appearing in the stage production of “After Midnight,” she fills in where Vanessa Williams, Toni Braxton and Fantasia have all taken bows, opposite Dule Hill https://museumofuncutfunk.com/2014/02/25/vanessa-williams-funks-up-broadway-again/.  Her run goes through June 29th at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre.

Ms. LaBelle had her 70th birthday recently, with shows, music, films and books to her credit, she’s giving no indications of stopping.  Patti’s last run on the Great White Way was in the Smith & Carter production of FELA!  Patti’s not the only one on the road this month, Sheila E. has been out since March promoting her latest release “Icon.”  An album that became available abroad last November, fans can finally have a copy at a state side price.  The CD features guest spots from Lucia Parker & Gisa Vatcky on the single “Mona Lisa.”  It’s a Latin banger, and I’m not talking about a gang member, the track is full of life and the video is funkin’ smokin’.     The clip was directed by Pete Escovedo, and “Icon” also features appearances from MC Lyte, Ledesi, Moms Escovedo and Prince & The E Family.  You can get it E.’s ‘Icon’ on vinyl as well, it features a real cool picture of Sheila on the cover.  Incidentally, Prince has worked with all of these women, as Chaka Khan is in the midst of a tour too.  She takes the stage tomorrow night at Kentucky’s KFC Center.  Scheduled for shows through August, a couple booked at the beginning of her run have been cancelled, stateside and in Canada.  Her last album was also titled “Ikhan”, only the spelling incorporated her name.
