#IfTheyGunnedMeDown is the latest phenomenon in social media.  In lieu of too many tragic unjustified killings by police, people – particularly ethnic ones – are posting photos of themselves side-by-side in two different respects.  One side is them in a respected capacity, while the other pictures them in what might be a questionable one.

The point of the double photo, is not to depict any individual as having a “double-life,” but to show how “the media” displays certain images to fit their agenda.  The latest in horrifying unjust and undue killings by police, is the alleged murder of 18-year-old Michael Brown in St. Louis, MO.  A cop shot him this past Saturday, which triggered outrage among residents who gathered at the scene shouting “kill the police.”  Brown was on his way to his grandmother’s house in the city of Ferguson, when he was gunned down at about 2:15 p.m., according to police and relatives.  Since Brown was killed, there has been rioting in the streets of the city, for two consecutive nights.  On Sunday, citizens began breaking in to stores looting and a mini-mart went up in flames, more rioting occurred in Ferguson last night.  The parents of Brown and the local city councilman have urged them to stop, as they do not want violence associated with the undue death of their son, and the community.  For more details on Brown’s parents actions, the riots in St. Louis and a timeline of other similar incidents… http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2014/08/11/st-louis-teen-police-shooting/13884695/

This latest tragedy occurs in the wake of the recent death of Eric Garner, 43, who was killed by police in New York.  Garner who had just broken up a fight, was approached by police for allegedly selling cigarettes illegally — he had priors for the offense.  I unfortunately keep hearing the man say “I can’t breathe” repeatedly in my head, ever since seeing the video tape of him being in an illegal choke hold by police, since the incident on July 17th.  That was less than a month ago… <iframe width=”560″ height=”315″ src=”//www.youtube.com/embed/j1ka4oKu1jo” frameborder=”0″ allowfullscreen></iframe>  Additional footage… <iframe width=”420″ height=”315″ src=”//www.youtube.com/embed/vT66U_Ftdng” frameborder=”0″ allowfullscreen></iframe>  There’s also the case of a 51-year-old woman, shown in a video being repeatedly punched, by a California Highway Patrol officer.  See footage of that incident here, in conjunction with the eyewitness account of the man, that shot the video… http://www.cnn.com/2014/07/07/us/california-police-videotape-beating/

The grassroots social media movement happening on Twitter regarding Michael Brown, seeks to examine how African Americans… Black People, are portrayed in the media.  It’s worth your time and attention!  Learn more here… http://time.com/3100975/iftheygunnedmedown-ferguson-missouri-michael-brown/
