A Tribe Called Quest and Aminé dropped my two favorite albums in hip-hop this year! Sure I’m feeling Jay-Z’s “4:44,” Kendrick Lamar’s “Damn,” and Rhapsody’s “Laila’s Wisdom,” however when reaching for rap to listen to…

…my hand is going for “We got it from Here… Thank You 4 Your Service” and “Good For You.” Tribe’s sixth and last CD ever, was rumored to be happening, for nearly two decades. Tension amidst members, solo endeavors and illness were among the hinderances, fortunately the project features the late Phife Dawg prominently.

Aminé’s debut CD features guest shots from Ty Dolla Sign, Offset, Kehlani, Nelly and “Uncle” Charlie Wilson. The release was heralded by the tracks “Carolin” huge record, “Heebiejeebies,” “Turf,” and “Wedding Crashers.” His flow and the production are fresh, yet the music harkens classic hip-hop, I love this album.
