The Museum Of UnCut Funk brings images from it’s FUNKY Collection online with the Google Cultural Institute

February 1st, 2016 ­ Starting today, over 240 artifacts from the Museum Of UnCut Funk Collection can be viewed online by people around the world due to a new partnership between the Google Cultural Institute and the museum. Thanks to this new virtual exhibition, users will be able to see items from the Black Animation Art, Coins / Medals / Medallions, Comic Book, Movie Poster and Stamp collections in just a few clicks at http://bit.ly/1nH8s7M.

Five specially curated digital exhibits have been developed for online visitors by the 1970’s Black Culture experts at the Museum Of UnCut Funk. These digital exhibitions present positive images of Black history icons, seminal Black history events, and groundbreaking Black pop culture characters.

Some of the historically important items featured in the online exhibitions are:

  • Peter Jones / Hardy Boys Original Animation Cel – The First Positive Black Character, Positive Black Male Character to appear in a Saturday Morning Cartoon Series
  • Marian Anderson Commemorative Bronze Medal – The First Black Person To Be Featured On A United States Commemorative Bronze Medal
  • Falcon Comic Book – The First Black Superhero To Be Featured In A Comic Book
  • Booker T. Washington Stamp Sheet – The First Black Person To Be Featured On A United States Post Office Stamp / Stamp Sheet
  • Coffy Original One Sheet Movie Poster – Featuring Pam Grier, The First Black Female To Star In A Major Action Film
