Apparently it’s a delusional fabricated term to give a solicitor a license to keep calling at hours you asked them NOT to call. At least that’s been my recent experience with Sirius/XM Radio. Seriously Sirius – I won’t be blasting “Yacht Rock” or “BackSpin” any longer.
Andre Romelle Young, better known as Dr. Dre, has dropped his new album “Compton”. The release came like a thief in the night, with minimal promotion and fanfare, just before the movie “Straight Outta Compton” hits theaters.
Last year I wrote an item titled “Missing the Funkiest Moment.” It was about how so many people nowadays that go to live performances, and truly miss the essence of the show they’re attending. You Are At The Show, you should enjoy it, not spend time trying to record it to watch later. I feel confident in my knowledge of this, as I have been so fortunate to see so many shows, since I was a teen.
2013 was a good year for music! There were a plethora of releases amidst a mass of diversity. Here are the favorites for the FUNKALICIOUS Blog (in no particular order) – Enjoy!!!!
Last night I had the fortune of taking part in one of the most groundbreaking events in entertainment history. The First Annual YouTube Awards, presented by Kia, was a spectacle for the ages! Featuring the music of Lady Gaga, M.I.A., Eminem, Earl Sweatshirt & Tyler, the Creator, Arcade Fire, Lindsey Stirling and Avicii, T-Pain and Michael Shannon made special appearances. All the performances were videos shot Live under the direction of visionary and the event’s Co-Creator, Spike Jonze.
Who’s Hot in Hip-Hop? Where’s Real Hip-Hop At? Questions those seeking always hear and will pose from time to time. It’s ALIVE and doing just fine. While there’s only some that appeals to me, ALL of it never did. There’s “rappers” out there that want to dis MCs for combining singing with rap, when rap is what R&B is today. I enjoy both, those that give it to me straight and those that flow with a melody.
THIS IS AN “OPEN LETTER” TO MY FAVORITE HIP-HOP PRODUCER DR. DRE. WARNING: This Blog May Contain Language Not Suitable for Small Children and Is Only for Those Who Really Love the Music of Dr. Dre. It’s not for the meek or easily offended at the rant of a hip-hop advocate and enthusiast. That said, it’s simply metaphysically time for new music from Dre. If you agree with me, I need you to prove it, I need you to tweet, share, e-mail, and get on the phone so this message goes viral. If you’re not down with that, stop here, this blog’s not for you.
The FUNKIEST moment is being there, in the moment, not recording it. I watched Oprah Winfrey’s address to Harvard University online last night. One being able to have the opportunity to hear a person of her caliber, success and expertise in a private setting speak, is rare. When moments like this occur, you should really be in tune and focused, not recording it.
It’s official, Andre 3000 of OutKast, real name Andre Benjamin has been cast to portray Jimi Hendrix in the biopic “All Is By My Side.” Benjamin’s name was mentioned a few years ago about taking on the role, but rumors died after about a month or so. “All Is By My Side” will be set in the 1960s just before the release of Jimi’s debut album “Are You Experienced.”
It’s been almost a year since my blog entry on the rivalry between Nicki Minaj and Lil’ Kim. Just when you thought it was over, Nicki’s back with a new track called “Stupid Hoe.”
