Collecting Black History Icons I

Here are a few items from the Museum Of UnCut Funk collection that commemorate the accomplishments of three strong Black women who are Black History Icons.

Harriet Tubman

Black Heritage Series – 13¢ Stamp Sheet – Issued February 1, 1978. Harriet Tubman was first Black woman to be honored on a U.S. postage stamp. The 13-cent stamp was the first in the Black Heritage series.

Civil War 32¢ Stamp Sheet – Issued June 29, 1995

Golden Legacy History Magazine – Issued in 1966

Sojourner Truth

Black Heritage Series – 22¢ Stamp Sheet – Issued February 4, 1986

Am I Not A Woman Slave Token – 1838 anti-slave token inspired by the speech of Sojourner Truth. “Ain’t I A Woman?”, delivered extemporaneously by Sojourner Truth at the Women’s Convention in Akron, Ohio on May 29, 1851

Rosa Parks

Black Heritage Series – Forever Stamp – Issued February 4, 2013

Rosa Parks Bronze Medal – Struck in recognition of Rosa Parks for her “contributions to the Nation as the first lady of civil rights.” This medal is a bronze replica of the Congressional Gold Medal awarded to Rosa Parks at a ceremony at the United States Capitol building on June 15, 1999
